OBC: What we believe

The Scriptures are the infallible Word of God, given by divine revelation. The original autographs of the Old and New Testaments were verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit, and are the supreme authority in matters of faith and conduct.

There is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and is truly God and truly man. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord; in His ascension into heaven, in His present life there for us as High Priest, and in His personal, pre-millennial, and imminent return to set up His earthly kingdom.

The Holy Spirit is a Person, co-equal with God in all of His attributes. The Spirit is sent by the Lord Jesus Christ from the Father to convict the world of sin, to regenerate, indwell, guide, and teach the believer, and to empower him to live in victory over sin.

Apart from Christ, humankind is spiritually dead and lost. Though man was created in the image of God, in the sin of Adam in the Garden of Eden, the whole human race fell, and is thereby alienated from God.

Jesus Christ died a substitutionary death upon the cross, by grace providing salvation for all who believe in Him. Believers are justified before God solely on the ground of His shed blood, and all who by repentance and faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior become the children of God.

Eternal life is a present possession for believers, and at death their spirits depart to be with Christ in conscious blessedness. At Christ's coming for the Church their bodies shall be raised and - together with the believers then living on earth - transformed into the likeness of the body of His glory.
